About Reeslev

History of Reeslev anno 1954 - 2011

The history of Reeslev Design started in 1954 when Esben Reelsev and his wife, Grethe, opened the first little shop i Copenhagen. The adress were Vester Farimagsgade "Under buen". 15 years later, in 1969, the clientele in the area did not match the high quality jewelry's, which made the shop move to Strøget. Back then Strøget was one of the most exclusive shopping streets in Copenhagen. After opening on this exclusive address, people started noticing Esben Reeslev's design, and soon he became famous because of is beautiful lines and the high quality of the craft.

In 1972 Reeslev opened their own workshop next to the shop. Because of this, Esben could concentrate more on the design and furthermore, the customers could see that it was made exclusively by hand.

During 1986 the shop expanded. This time twice the size. The success became absolute when the Danes started using Reeslev Design as their preferred manufacturer of high-end wedding rings. The same year one of Esben Reeslevs son's, tried to start a wholesale department. Unfortunately it did not go as planned, and he left the business 2 years later. In recognition that his sons had no ambition of taking over the family business, Esben and his wife offered Margit Hansen, Guld og Sølv Roskilde A/S, to buy the business and its exclusive designs. Esben thought that Torben Hansen, son of Margit, would be the right person to maintain the high standard of the name Reeslev and disseminate the timeless design.

In June 1998 Reeslev became a part of Margit Hansen Gruppen. The name were changed to Reeslev Copenhagen, to signal that the shop sold more than its own designs. The follow up with the sale of exclusive watches became an immediate success. In October 2003 Reeslev Copenhagen moved again. This time in the more exclusive area near Kgs. Nytorv. At the new fashionable adress, Grønnegade 36, and with a new website to compliment it, people all over the world started requesting Reeslev Designs. In 2006 the business were more successful than ever.

After only 5 years at this adress, Reeslev Copenhagen had to look for more spacious locations, which resulted in one of Denmark's most exclusive shops in Bredgade. This is where Reeslev Copenhagen is today - moreover as one of the few with an in-house goldsmith and own production of jewelry.

The shop and business are today owned and driven by Torben Hansen and his fiancé Stella Tesileanu.
